Samsung Scholarship

One citizen of Rhododendron Girls State will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and entered for the chance to win a $20,000 scholarship from Samsung.

Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea’s aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. In 2011, 10 $20,000 scholarships and 88 $1,000 scholarships were awarded.

DEADLINE: you must do the application online BEFORE you arrive at Girls State. You must bring your completed Samsung Scholarship printed with the required information to turn in when you arrive.

Governor Scholarship Award

The citizen elected Governor of the Rhododendron Girls State Session will receive a one-time $500 scholarship.

Star Leadership Scholarship Award

One citizen will be selected based on their involvement in the 2022 program to receive a one-time $500 scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in honor of long-time West Virginia public servant and volunteer, Mary Jo Thomas of Fairmont.
